I agree wholeheartedly. If you need a venue option or two on the down-low, my family will probably have a connection or two we can pull strings on - as our wedding present to you, of course.
["Oh, that would be too much, even as a gift..."]
Shhh, Mob, it really isn't that much. Mom's been in a titter of excitement. A couple nights at a venue is not a big deal in the slightest.
[ the wheels turning again in reigen’s head. it is a lot to accept as a gift from someone he barely knows--but then, she and mob care about each other a lot. and then eloping would be less furtive or rushed or unceremonious and more just like--a small but real wedding, low-stress.
shit. that actually makes it seem possible. as the waitress comes by to take their order reigen leans back, thinking. ]
[Shigeo looked over the moon, and if he were more emotionally forward, he might have been tearing up in joy. Tsubomi was so, so important to him - his friend ever since they were little, little kids. The person who helped him come to some kind of terms with his pain, growing up. The person who'd helped Ritsu.
She smiled as he blushed and put his hands over the chopsticks that were starting to float, a little, before the waitress notices.]
[ reigen, halfway through his wheels turning, glances again at mob and grins a little, helplessly. every day this whole getting married thing seems less and less farfetched.
he orders his usual, a hot soba with duck and veggies. he sure likes hot food for someone who has never learned to eat it responsibly. he likes tsubomi a lot too--it almost surprises him how much he likes her. it’s easy to see how anyone could’ve had a crush on her in their youth, never mind as an adult. ]
[Shigeo orders some cold soba with veggies, in the mood for something a little cool and light. Conversations were light and airy, and Shigeo felt completely at ease - he didn't even realize halfway through the meal what he was doing before gently wiping some sauce off of Arataka's face with his thumb before pressing a happy little kiss to his lips.
Oh, the smile on Tsubomi's face was positively foxlike.]
[ reigen makes it a point to be unabashed about public displays of affection when it’s just the two of them--it’s his contrarian nature--but they still don’t kiss much in front of friends and family. to be honest, it doesn’t even register as unusual until he turns back to his food and realizes tsubomi is smirking at them, at which point heat prickles under his collar. he goes back to cramming his face, focused. GOD ]
[Even if she was grinning, she was tactful enough not to say anything - but the sight put her at ease. She had nothing to worry about. Her best friend had a lovely partner indeed.]
Has it been nice being in love, Mob?
[With a mouth full of soba, caught a little off guard, he nodded eagerly.]
Everything you ever hoped?
[He was hurrying to eat-- she was teasing him, a little. "Y-yes, it really is..."]
... hah. Thanks. But there was no need to worry. He makes me happy.
[ and then, that soft look in his eyes taking a minute to pass--he flaps his hand out, lackadaisically. ]
It’s more like relationship advice these days--I think people are getting their hopes up thanks to the tree. But of course, friends get a special discount!
Man, it even sounds weird hearing it ... No, the name change will be good. It’ll be a pain to reprint the business cards, but I like how it sounds. A family business!
[ city spiritualists, the kageyamas! he can see it now! ]
... it’s, uh. Definitely been coming up more lately.
[ with ritsu. his sister had texted too about how she was waffling about children herself, then she’d asked him what he thought. he’d replied honestly, though: he hadn’t thought about it at all.
he still hasn’t spent a lot of time with the idea, but one thing feels very certain: he probably wouldn’t make a very good dad. ]
[What a time for an eye as sharp as Tsubomi's to be on you. Still, she doesn't directly call Reigen out, just smiling simply at Shigeo.]
Just remember to take your time. You still have plenty of time. A good savings is a good start, really, I'll always be lucky that my parents were such penny pinchers before they decided to have me.
["Ah, that's true... That's good advice, Tsubomi, thank you."]
[ yeah okay reigen can appreciate a bailout when he gets one. he huffs out a sigh. ]
Yeah ... we’re still pretty young, and we just moved into a new place. It’s a great apartment, but it’s too early in the lease period to wanna make room for more people anyway. Even tiny ones.
Yeah... I want to go back to school first... find out what I can do really well. That way we don't have to worry about slow seasons for Spirits & Such.
[ not that reigen had accounted for mob thinking that hard about kids. he should’ve taken the matter more seriously when it came up with ritsu, but thankfully that doesn’t feel like anyone’s fault. ]
[And of course, thankfully, there's no danger of imminent emergency - just a looming conversation for later down the line.]
I think for now, I want to enjoy the time where we have the freedom to go exploring more often... Arataka always seems to find these strange jobs in interesting new places. It'd take a long time for kids to be old enough to come along for those... and maybe I want to be a little selfish and have my husband to myself for a little while.
[Shigeo flashes Arataka a smile, affectionate as anything. God... he was so, so in love. He was making his tea cup float, and he didn't even realize.]
[ reigen doesn’t even comment, he just takes the teacup out of the air and holds it fast but not tightly against the tabletop. ]
We’re coming up on only a year of engagement and we’ve had some pretty crazy stuff happen. I’d say we make sure our first year of marriage goes smoothly before we drag anybody else in.
Yeah ... if we manage to keep a third employee, though, someone should probably stay at home ...
[ why is he talking about this like it’s a done deal? mob is very cute talking about kids, so reigen’s getting sucked in too. they really should at least ... lay the groundwork for that conversation sometime. alone. ]
Ah, thanks again for lunch, Takane-san. You wanna come visit the office with us or do you want to save it for another day?

... good. I do ... I do plan on keeping him happy.
[ pushing around the last of his soba, then lifting his noodles, gesturing with his chopsticks before his last bite. ]
No skin off my nose to repeat it. I’m all in.

[Shigeo practically swoons - the fact that she was just as thoroughly examining Reigen for his happiness just reinforced his admiration of her.]
You'll have to show me your office, next. I've saved up for one of your fortune tellings.

You’re a born negotiator, Takane-san. Arataka is fine, by the way. If you’re gonna be maid of honor, it only seems right.

[She chuckled.]
Unless you're going to be "Reigen Shigeo"?
["Mmm... no... we both prefer Kageyama."]
