[ it would not have occurred to reigen to consider it. it also would not have occurred to reigen’s parents to ask. that’s a whole bag of cats right there. ]
The ... the Uncle Ritsu thing was mostly a joke, you know ... We’ll figure out the rest on our own time.
[ with the plates set aside for washing later and the three of them just having tea, reigen props his chin on his hand. ]
Really? That’s interesting. I used to think I was like that too. --not that I think you’ll feel differently in the future or anything. [ plain, matter-of-fact reassurance. reigen doesn’t keep up with the terminology, nor does he think about his own feelings or circumstances very often, but he’s terribly chill about, you know, society. ] But for me, it always felt like something for someone else. It seemed obvious to me, but [ tipping his head towards mob ] maybe my folks saw something I didn’t.
Mm. I can feel very strongly close to other people, but it doesn't ever feel romantic in the way it seems to affect others. It seems like it'd be nice. If I end up falling for someone, then I'll figure out how it goes.
[Ritsu will also lean with his chin on his hand.]
I think none of our parents had any idea how well you two would match. I know my mom secretly agreed to it thinking that some dating experience would help nii-san get out of his shell.
["Wait... really?"]
Mmhmm. The way she saw it, either you would be happy, or you would understand yourself a little better. Dad thought you two would 'look nice together'.
That makes sense. I don’t think I would’ve dragged it all out if it wasn’t working, anyway.
[ though he certainly hadn’t been averse to complicating things, what with the business and all. ]
My parents ... they’re difficult people. And traditional. Mob knows. My sister’s a high achiever, she’s married, has a boring job, all that stuff. I’m pretty sure their logic in trying to set me up was mostly to get me to tick off at least one or two boxes. [ he grins, gesturing with his mug. ] It’s almost annoying how well things are working out.
[ flustered, pressing a tiny helpless smile into his hand and staring down into his tea. possibly not demonstrating to any real extent that mob doesn’t run the show when they’re alone. ]
[ reigen waves a hand dismissively, composure regained. ]
They’re ... difficult. I mentioned before they’re gonna want a say in the venue, but that probably goes for everything else about the wedding too, because they’re gonna say, well, if we’re paying for it, as if we’ve even had that conversation ...
[ he rolls his eyes. clearly it’s a fight he fully anticipates, and intends to prepare for, but nevertheless could never look forward to. ]
[ reigen’s expression is no less than absolutely shit-eating. he laughs, mischievous, but happy too, his hand briefly brushing mob’s knee under the table. he’s got ideas, alright, good ones; he’s going to neatly remove a single outlying problem from the most important thing he’s ever done, and then he’s going to actually do the thing, and it’s going to be fantastic. ]
Anyway. We’ve still got ice cream, right? You guys up for it?
[ said emphatically. reigen is in a great mood. he’s gonna stand up, get them all some ice cream pops from the freezer, and he’s going to be a great conversationalist for however long ritsu elects to stay.
under the table, at some point, his hand finds mob’s knee again and just--rests there, another one of his hundred casually entitled gestures. he drums his fingers against the joint now and then, thoughtful. he’s been touching mob like this since basically the day they met, and he only does it more often with time, with increased contentment, with mounting ease about what he does and doesn’t deserve. ]
[Shigeo keeps his composure, chatting with Ritsu for a while before Ritsu finally heads home. Shigeo gets a hug, of course, and Reigen gets an oh-so-generous pat on the arm before Ritsu leaves.
After getting to talk to Ritsu and getting to have a wonderful time with his wonderful fiance... Shigeo sighed contentedly, wrapping his arms around Arataka and picking him up a little, spinning him around. Shigeo always liked that he could pick up Arataka.]

["I'm just preparing you before mom and dad ask you, you know," the younger brother teased, sipping at his tea.]
There's no way I'd know that already...

I missed out on meeting Arataka's parents. Are they unpleasant, nii-san? Did they bully you?
["I don't think they did... they were very unfair to Arataka, though."]
